What is it?

Have a part you can't identify? Did your parts get mixed up in the shop? Curious if that chunk of metal is a part you should keep? Not sure what kind of windmill or tower you have? Post photos of the mystery object here for the community to help identify.

It was under a bunch of others. I am sorting and tagging. I do have a tail for that one I stenciled already years ago. Really cool writing on it. I think I remember it having 1903 on it. I'll see if I can get a picture of it if it's not buried. I have the head by itself now so I can get it easily as soon as I finish 3 others I'm in the middle of restoring. HAHA

Dempster went through a time where they made a bunch of open gear mills, each one, an "improvement" on the other. I knew I had an #8 and a #10, but I forgot about this one. I really don't know how rare it is. I forgot where I got it from, but starting to remember things about it. I remember now that I have the tail, and made a new tailbone, and cleaned up the tailbone hardware. Guess I need to get all this stuff put together in one place for it. Page 184 in the black book ( Dempster Steel) has good info on them.

Yeah, now that the head is known, I can get all the parts put together in one place. Still have some tailbone hardware in the shop somewhere. I put it in a special place so I wouldn't forget where it was. LOL You know how that goes......

I just love open gear mills. They all have their own personalities and you can see everything moving. I wouldn't mind having a open gear dempster they don't look like they would be hard to work on. If I lived closer i would make you an offer you might like, maybe not !! 🤔🤔
