Wanna be
Re: Wanna be
Kenneth , teck F & W question , the main gear shaft sits in a wood bearing , which sits in the main case casting , but only sits on about 1/4 inch ledge on each end . seams it has lasted a 100 years like that but should there be support accross 100% of the wood bearing ?

Re: Wanna be
I'd think not. The shaft is really going to be supported on each end. I'd think the center would float. Remember they spent a lot of money engineering that assembly and I bet somebody asked that question and they decided not.
Re: Wanna be
No. They are only supported on each end. Mine were the same way. I guess the type of wood, (Hard Maple), doesn't give much and is able to take it. If you replace them, your main shaft will sit a little higher. That's where those double nuts come in to play. To adjust the clearance.
Re: Wanna be
Probably an oil reservoir to keep the bearing soaked. Thank me later.
Call Dan Benjamin for parts. P M me for the phone number. IF YOU TALK TO HIM, AND HE HELPS YOU, THEN BUY FROM HIM. IT CREATES GOOD KARMA.
