8 foot baker WC model windmill
Hello, I’m new to the windmill forum. I’ve always wanted a windmill and came across a baker 8 foot WC model with tower. I’m trying to figure out how to remove the motor from the stub tower. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Welcome to the forum.
From memory, at the bottom of the mast pipe below the storm stay, there is a pump rod guide. Remove that pump rod guide, as it acts like a pump rod guide and keeps the gearbox from getting sucked off the tower during severe storms. You’ll need to drop the pump rod too. You can also unhook one end of the chain as well.
You’ll likely have a lot of ball bearings fall out of race, so be ready or careful. Take photos before you disassemble as it helps to have some photos during reassembly.

Thanks for your reply. How do you remove the pump rod guide? Is it screwed on the end of the shaft or is there a lock bolt that holds it in place?

It is held in by a bolt.

Scott , take LOT's of photo's , LOT's & Lot's , before , during & after dissembly as when it comes time to start reassmbly you will need that referance .

You will need to take the bonnet off to get to the pump rod inside the head.

Actually, the pumprod can stay in the head. The swivel screws, onto the end of the rod, so when you take it off, it;s just the empty rod.

Is there a foot of neckpipe above the tower? those were earlier ones. If the head sits on the tower top, the bushing in the end of the neckpipe with the bolt can be really hard to get out. that bolt is on top of the stay, the bushing is under it. I hav had to break the flange off all the way around it to get it up thru the stay. Hopefully yours will drop out with penetrating oil. We take a couple of bunjee cords and pull down the top of the turntable to keep it in place while messing with the head. The chain on the brass swivel inside the 2 piece swivel cup has to come off. this is around the neckpipe usually inside the tower. Cover the top of the well ! Or wellpipe!

If you have the earlier kind with the head a foot up from the tower top, say so. There is a difference in mounting the head on the tower.
