Re: Texas Aermotor
I was hoping one of you guys had deep pockets and bought it...
I tried to enlarge the pics for better detail but lost a lot of clarity when switching pic formats.
The listing says 6' and the only things you can be certain on is that it is swallow tail vane and a U bolt hub and a pre 1929 tail bone.
The incongruities in this listing:
The swallow tail was not made in 6'.
The first 6' Aermotor was the 6' 602 but wasnt introduced until mid 1920s.
The motor case would have pinion pin access plugs but none are visible (a better pic would help)
The spacing of the center vane seam rivets are similar to the 8' swallow tail vane I have to compare with.
I have a hard time telling for sure if it is a two or single rivet wheel.
The only scenario that makes sense is that it was an 8' 702 with 723 hub with a swallow tail vane?
Few working windmills are "original" but this one covers the gamut..

Re: Texas Aermotor
Ron, The first 6' mill was made in an R/A. I can't remember for sure but I believe they first appear in the '07 catalog. They actually did produce at least one of these mills and I have the tail and bone to one. As far as I know it's the only known part to a 6' R/A mill that has ever been found. The tail I have is not a swallow tail. As far as I can tell they switched from a swallow tail to regular flat tail around 1904. The 04 catalog shows illustrations of both tails.
I defiantly agree the one on the auction was an 8' mill.
BTW I just started reproducing new swallow tails for 8' mills.
