Thanks guys for checking. I'll let you know if I find anything. Aaron, newspaper ad would be a starting point for mill identification🙂

Right now I'm looking at a suspicious candidate windmill tower, located along "fossil railroad" right of way.

R.R. has been gone for decades, might be a chance of something remaining if no roads to reach windmill & no access for removal, less likely to have been scrapped during World War I and World War II scrap drives.

I wonder if checking patents associated with towns close to Effingham might be useful? Like maybe within a 50 mile radius? I had a look thru the Guide to United States Patents for Windmills, nothing about Saunders or Effingham.
I agree that checking some old local newspapers might yield an advertisement. Just about every KS town has a local museum filled with stuff donated by local families. Good luck in the search!

I went through my files and I got a guy named Saunders but it was not Effingham Kansas and I think it was just a well driller. My local papers are full of them, sorry I am not of help but very interested.
