Goold Shapley & Muir Power Mill
Goold Shapley & Muir 14 foot Ideal power mill. A fellow I know that has a friend in the scrap business called me that he found a large mill. The scrap guy bought it at an auction near Toronto. It was going to go for scrap! I picked it up yesterday, in my 13 years of collecting windmills I think this is the coolest mill I have ever found. Peter

I agree that is super cool. The way it mounted to the tower really looks different almost like the mast pipe set outside the top off tower. Am I seeing that right?
Re: Goold Shapley & Muir Power Mill
I was scratching my head on that yesterday. Looking today, I am thinking that is a post mount, with the mast pipe sitting to the side of the post. Feasible?

It was on a 10"x10" post on top of a barn, that thing is heavy I wonder how they got it up there back then?

Good to see another piece of history saved from being scrapped.
Re: Goold Shapley & Muir Power Mill
That's AWESOME. I was reading up on it, and it seems they made 3 of those. There was an Ideal, an Ideal Brantford, and a New Ideal. There is reference material out there, a lot in Canada. Catalogs with parts lists for all 3 kinds. Don't know what the difference between them all is.

According to the literature I have there was an old style Ideal, an Ideal and a New Ideal. This one here which is an Ideal you could get either with a 14', 15' or a 16' wheel and tail.
