I started with light material. They just looked weak, so I went with stronger steel. 3/16 X 2" angle iron, 3/4 X 7/8 rectangle bar, Schedule 250 1/2" pipe for the hinge and schedule 80 pipe for the J hooks. If you build to strong you will never know. If you build weak, someone gonna get hurt
