First post. Hello.

Post by Doug Burton »

I'm interested in getting a vintage windmill for the farm. It's never had one. I'd like to get one that works or can be made to work. I know nothing about them.
My first question, and it's important to me, is how noisy are they?
I'll have more questions.

Doug,

Welcome aboard. Lots of knowledgeable folks on here. Ask all the windmill questions you have, someone will know or have access the answers.

If a windmill is properly rebuilt and maintained (oiled/greased), most windmills make very little to no noise.

Hi Doug! Welcome! Glad you're here.

CTX is right. They're fairly quiet if you keep them maintained and lubricated.

Welcome Doug
My feeling is a farm is not a farm without a windmill but that just me. Like the other folks have said if maintained they won't keep you up at night.

Most of the reason i got into windmills, is I lived out in the country that had an extra well. Nothing was above it, so I had a friend with a pump come over and check the well. After finding out it was a good well, I thought about putting a mill over it. The rest is history.

There are windmill guys in your state. If you are mechanically inclined, you will enter a very enjoyable field.
Call Dan Benjamin for parts. P M me for the phone number. IF YOU TALK TO HIM, AND HE HELPS YOU, THEN BUY FROM HIM. IT CREATES GOOD KARMA.

Years ago a little old lady complained after her mill was repaired that she could not sleep. She was use to the racket from that old noisy mill putting her to sleep. Anyways a windmill operating properly makes very little noise.

Welcome doug. When working properly most mills don't make much noise. I am like the others i enjoy the sounds they make.
