Kenneth, I'm impressed you even have a vacuum to clean up the metal crumbs.
No wonder your shop floor is so clean.
Periodically I have to get the shovel out to clean mine.

Thanks Mike. When I worked in manufacturing, my company pushed cleanliness. There thought was a
clean shop is an efficient shop. And I guess it stuck with me. And I am particular to begin with. Guess it's not a bad habit to have.

If I can hijack this a little, how did you remove the hub/shaft from the mill body? I can't seem to to find YouTube video showing it they skipped over that part. Have 602 model and need to do this.

Oh boy, this is going to be a lot different than a 702.

Take out the oil scraper inside the hub.
In each pinion gear there are 2 pins like maybe 3/16 in each, at 90 degrees, offset from the center of the tooth. They can be hard to locate. DO NOT USE A TAPERED PUNCH.
If you have 2 plugs in the case right under the outside edge of the helmet on the top of the case, take them out.
Once you locate the 2 pins in each pinion, drive or drill them out through the plug holes, or from inside the case. You may need to cut them off as you drive them out but if you do NOT then you can use them again on re-assembly.
Rotate hub and shaft and hold the pinions still as you apply penetrating oil liberally.
Once really free, you can pull the shaft and hub out.

Oh, take out the bull gears first. I had assumed you already did. There is a trick to them too.

Very nice work Kenneth! I am curious what OD dimension did turn the new shaft and what grade of steel did you use for your replacement. Thanks for sharing, Tom

Tom, the grade of steel is I believe 1045 TPG. The OD is .937 (15/16")
The pinion end is turned down to .875 for the pinions.
