Generally speaking, this area is for general discussion about things in general, in most cases.

Not something you want to see when you are drinking your morning coffee. After that your day can not get much worse. 18 ft. RR eclipse.

Yep, that is the Shattuck Eclipse. Wow, hard to believe it escaped damage! Not much there keeping it from falling.

Hmmm. Mustave had a weakness in the tower riser. The rest looks fine, except where it was fastened.
Call Dan Benjamin for parts. P M me for the phone number.

Flood

Post by Dave Straub »

Two 40' Aermotor windmills I installed in 2016, 1/4 mile apart in two different cow pastures on the Elkhorn river bottom NW of Omaha were affected. The windmills were 22' above normal river level but the flood waters exceed that and flooded the whole bottom land. Waters crept up three feet on the towers. The bottom has many trees and dead wood laying around. The owner was worried that big logs in the fast current could have damaged the towers. But the water level has dropped back into the banks and after inspection on the towers everything appears OK. The pastures suffered much soil erosion.

You might ask why windmills were needed for water next to a river? In dry seasons the water is so low cattle can walk across the river to the other side and get out. Fencing along the river would be a constant repair and replace after rising waters. Cattle seem to prefer well water vs river water for drinking. Seems odd that cattle would still want to cool off in the river when it's hot. But the well water seems to keep them in.
