So, do most people use the same oil in the 16ft as they do the 6ft?

Yes. The oiling system is the same, the type of oil should be the same.

For the warranty on new mills or certain rebuilders, you want to be using "real" windmill oil if you want a warranty.

Is there a certain type/brand of ATF to use? I can't find 10W non detergent and was going to get ATF but wasn't sure what the best kind was.

Regular red ATF is what we use for at least 10 years now. No failures yet due to oil, unless they don't check it and it runs out.

Have a question about oil. I'm rebuilding a Van Brunt 5 disk grain drill built early 1900's. Have one of the original lids. On the inside it has a stencil that tells you to use soft oil in the disk bearings. Anybody have an idea what soft oil is?

Wayne: I believe they called light viscosity grease "soft oil" back in the day.

Thanks! I was wondering if it might have meant grease. It doesn't have grease cups so I guess they took the disk off and packed the bearings ever spring before planting time.
