Thank you, Jim! Your pic is EXTREMELY helpful! Attached are my "cleaned" finds from yesterday, minus 10lbs of sand and crud. There's lots more where that came from. It appears that whoever took (tore?) the windmill down threw pieces into a small river/stream located behind the windmill. Makes sense to me that they did that rather than hauling heavy metal pieces from this remote location.

What's the heavy "broken" piece on the right? Part of the rotating wheel/blades??

I can't say with any certainty what that piece might be. It appears to be part of the pump rod - something like item #10 on the illustration I posted. It's not likely part of the wheel since the wooden wheels had wood wheel arms (spokes).

The piece you found that looks like a horse collar is called the "Yoke" (item #6) and the piece attached to it is called a "Link" (item #12). The link you have appears to be from a 14 foot mill.

Keep posting your discoveries. I'm very interested in seeing what all you find. Can you provide any information on what town or city near which this find is located? I might be able to come up with some information regarding the estate or property of the original purchaser.

Thanks and best regards,
Jim
