Just received the January issue of Farm Collector magazine.
on page 27 it shows a Owatonna Windrower , figure #5 , the shaft with the wooden blades.
appears to be the same
mystery solved.
NOT a windmill part

Wow, what luck! I spent a lot of time on the web trying to ID that part. Didn't find a thing. Searched all kinds of old equipment, and tried to match the mark. Found nothing. Great job Mike!

Thanks again for solving the mystery. Any way you can post the picture from the magazine? I’m not a subscriber, yet.

Those two reel shafts are not the same. One has only 2 hubs for reel blades
and the one in Farm collector has 3.Also Mike`s has a gear while
the one in Farm Collector has a pulley that is belt driven by a stationary
engine. Mind you the gear drive probably predates engines and was driven
from a ground drive which also tells me it may have come from an older machine.
Just my observations and am subject to further research.

I'm wondering if it is a Milwaukee sold by IHC. The leaning hub on the end of the shaft away from the gear I think is backwards the arms would be leaning out as in the photo. A Milwaukee would also explain the M on the arms.

I've seen those before its for a binder. The wooden spokes bolt to those hubs and then wooden slats across. The gear goes to a ground drive or "bull" wheel lots of that stuff out here in Sask.

Refer to the Farm Collector magazine January 2021
page 26 shows a windrower, very similar design.
My vote, a piece of farming equipment.
