Wide-spread tower
Re: Wide-spread tower
Dan, I do think about that a lot. And that goes for lots of things. Those were real men back then.

Re: Wide-spread tower
I got a new old stock Fairbury "Ranch Spread" tower for a 16ft. I am going to put an Aermotor stub on it and use it eventually. I have no idea what it will look like when assembled but there is a lot of angle iron there!

Re: Wide-spread tower
I have never seen Aermotor advertising that used ranch or rancher in the naming of the tower but for some reason the 21' standard 4 post tower is often called rancher wide spread. In advertising literature it was given a "wider spread" for easier working of pipe at the well head. The change in angle of the tower was at the platform bolt hole. The 21 has all unique girts and X braces.
The Aermotor officially called Wide Spread towers were just in 12, 14 and 16. They also had a pipe window. They changed angle from standard just above the bolts at the base of the 7' stub. Regardless of height, the Wide Spread was started with a 7' stub. Girts and X bracing are also unique to this tower.

Re: Wide-spread tower
Ron, thanks a lot. Very informative information. I just bought an E702 and a 33’ tower. Looking forward to erecting it soon.
