I would havwe heated the outside item, not the tailpin, as heating would swell the outer item , then oil would have gotten in there. That is certainly weldable, minor pressure on that half of the arm.

I have nothing for 10 foot, but have many 6 and 8 ft of those.

I have watched some videos on welding cast iron but what do you recommend to do ? Brazing doesn’t look very good? Would you tig or mig or stick weld?

The way I weld cast is the only way I know. There may be better ways, but I'm not any kind of great welder, so I don't know the options. I would grind out one side to a V then tack it with NI99 nickle rod with a stick welder.. Then I would 'cold' weld it, in other words, weld a long tack, then wait a bit. Then again. Then again. when one side is done, turn it over, grind the other side out to a V then do the same thing. Or just take it to a welding shop. Should be like taking a nap while doing it for a pro. A good 4inch grinder works wonders on a rough weld.

Have a good welder work their majic on it , grind the outside smooth , a little primer & paint to match , then , 30 feet up in the air , perfect !
a welder would cost less & be faster to complete that simple task .

While waiting for parts, I tried my hand at straightening my bent tower. I used a 4 foot long 3/8 angle iron and sandwiched my tower between that and a smaller piece of angle and pressed the angle flat. Then I heated the metal and pounded on the old bent area to shrink the angle back into shape

I don't recall working over many 3/16 angles. I have a tough enough time with 1/8. Hope it works for you. Looks good so far.

That 30 ton press would have been really handy when I did my towers. Usually when you bend or twist angle iron and straighten it it looses it's durability. Make sure and check that.

While waiting for parts from Dan, I started the cleaning and priming process. I have a question about the oil trough that leads from the main body to the snout. The casting is really rough and I was wondering if it should be smooth so the oil runs up to the bearing?
