If it were me I wouldn't take it to the welder complete because he's just going to take it apart to weld it properly cause the broken pieces have to be cleaned and welded on all sides.if he's like most welders they charge by the hour. Just my opinion

You might show him and ask him these questions when he sees it. I was thinking the same thing.
Call Dan Benjamin for parts. P M me for the phone number. IF YOU TALK TO HIM, AND HE HELPS YOU, THEN BUY FROM HIM. IT CREATES GOOD KARMA.

Spoke with the welder and showed him the project. He requested that I take it apart and then he could take care of it.

Next question is that the fan was pretty self explanatory however is there a certain process to taking the gearbox apart?

Thank you!

Kyle I can't help you with that I've never worked on a Woodman's but I can tell you this take lots of pics before you start and I'm sure someone on this forum can help you with the disassembling. Good luck and keep us posted

Thank you! I will be starting the disassembly tomorrow and will take lots of detailed photos. Im going to try to preserve as much of the gearbox hardware as possible so I’ll be putting the hardware in ziplocks with labels as I remove them.

I do have some parts for those 8 ft Woodmanse open gear mills. They were fairly popular in parts of the country.

Updates!

Straightened most of the blades which has been easier then I imagined. New issue is blade condition…I have quite the range as it seems. My intention is to keep the “patina” as much as possible as it will be placed next to a rustic looking barn on my property. However I’m wondering at what point is the condition too poor to put in the air (if any)

Here is a photo of the range of blades that I have. Please let me know.

Also included is a photo of the pinion gear of my windmill. It appears a bit of the gear has worn away over time, is this worth trying to find a replacement for or is it in good enough condition to put in the air? (The ring gear seems to be in fine condition other then some cleaning needed.)

Thank you!!

In looking at the pinion again perhaps the teeth were designed to have sort of a cutout look like that? So maybe it’s ok?
