I have 4 spoke holes in the hub, I see yours has 5. Tha book says Mod A mills had 7 1/2, 9, and 11 ft mills. C mills had 8, 10, and 11 1/2 ft mills.
I always figure mine was an 8 ft, but was wondering why they put a cheezy 4 section wheel on it. Now I learned it's probably a 7 1/2 ft, so I guess a cheezy 4 section wheel is ok. HAHA
Axtel Model A rebuild
Re: Axtel Model A rebuild
Call Dan Benjamin for parts. P M me for the phone number. IF YOU TALK TO HIM, AND HE HELPS YOU, THEN BUY FROM HIM. IT CREATES GOOD KARMA.
Re: Axtel Model A rebuild
Maybe the weird size was a sales gimmick. Our 7 ft wheel is as good as their 8 ft wheel, the 9 ft as good as their 10 ft and our 11 ft as good as their 12 ft?????

Also cost affective, less material, less costly.

Re: Axtel Model A rebuild
Jerry yours looks great, I thought the ball bearing thrust washer setup wasn't original but looks like it might be based on seeing yours also with that setup.

Re: Axtel Model A rebuild
This looks like an Axtell stub with tower cap.Centex Windmills wrote: Mon Dec 12, 2022 3:48 pm We had to pull down our Axtel A model earlier this year. It started leaking all the oil out, the furling system broke and the gearbox started leaning on the tower. Finally got around to starting the teardown this weekend and get it out of the weather.
We didn't rebuild this one but the biggest question is the tower cap, from the few pictures I've seen it's not a original axtel tower cap just not sure what it's from and retrofitted to work. Would love to find a original model A tower cap but know thats like a needle in a hay stack.
Hopefully going to have this one sorted by spring when the crane comes back to put 4 other mills up we have ready to go, fingers crossed.
