Is the manufacture date of this mill February 1939?

Good guess. I wish they could have stamped them better. Unless the hoop has been changed.

I was told the early 702's had the date and initials of the builder when put together.if it's true i don't know

O.k. i talked to my friend again.the top letter is the guy that put it together.the number under that is the month.the numbers under that is the year.the letter under that is the inspector.the hoop must be off a 602 because of the year.this is not written in stone.

Thanks Dan. I took a look at our A702 case, B702 and F702 mills. It does appear that the month is above the year.

Have had a few odd ball stamps that don't fit the accepted method figured they were factory rebuilds

Same here. The theory is great until a number does not fit the profile.

The number looks more like 49 to me than 19. Wouldn’t that be more accurate?

Agreed. I believe the date is March 1949.
