Ok, here's the deal. I take those kind apart, and toss that stuff. I change them over to the newer seal, for better or worse.

If the washer goes outside the bearing, the race better go on the bearing proper, without any interferance with the operation or placement of the bearing.

Sorry for the confusion on my part. I have been wrong before, probably will be again.

Ok, on the dempser bull gears, should the shaft come out of both gears during the tear down? Also, what keeps the bull gears attached to the shaft? An Aermotor has pins but I dont see any on the dempster. Looks like the shaft is stationary and the bull gears spin on the shaft freely.
Thanks

Jerry

they run separate from each other. not tied. There is a 'fork' that goes under the nut on the guide rod that holds them in place.

So, the bull gears just spin freely on the shaft without any pins.

Windy, when I took gears apart, one gear came off the shaft and the other was still on the shaft. Should I press the other gear off the shaft? Thanks

Bull gears spin free on the shaft. Must be rusty. Usually they just fall off. The pic shows the 'fork'.

Bull gears have left and eight on them. What is left and right looking at the gear box? Thanks
