Stover solid wood wheel circa 1878

I found this windmill about two years ago in a barn in Western NY. Originally it was on a ornate tower attached to a barn with a brass water tank in the tower that gravity fed water to the house and also the tobbaco fields.It was taken down around the turn of the century and stored in the barn. This mill is all original.

Wow, you find a lot of neat mills up there. I need to have my oldest son start looking for windmills in the upstate area.

Great Find! The main shaft, and spider looks like a Perkins.

Paul a few years back my friend in Texas almost convinced me to move down there because of the amount of windmills.since then I'm finding my share of them up here i think I'll stay. Happy hunting

You have really surprised me with all the mills up there. I would never have thought there were so many. What's the average water table depth there?
