All great questions on how to clean raw wool .
I did use lamp wick's & chain saw oil in the Ideal Steel I rescued , has been flying for 6 months now , no extrodinary extra sounds of dry bearings , so that seems to work OK .

I would not worry about the lanolin. I THINK it will mix with oil. I would say clean it up the best you can and use it.

If you're going to use the sheep wool maybe lay a spark arrestor screen under the wool so it doesn't plug the holes or window screen.
