I'm getting ready to order pump leathers but don't know what size or kind to order. Where exactly do I take measurements from on the check valve assembly? Thanks. John

It looks like those valves are for an inch and 7/8 cylinder. That's the leathers you would need, for an 1 7/8 inch cylinder.

Measure the inside of the cylinder. On your plunger, measure the threads diameter. SOme leathers come with a couple of different size holes. We use regular Stockman Leathers. Nothing fancy. Tried all those, and still get the best service from tanned cup leathers. You really don't want the leathers to fit tight in the cylinder, the ones we use get nice and soft when wet. Tight fit leathers are a headache.

Thanks guys. I hope to make the cylinder out of PVC since the mill will only be operating a decorative fountain. I'll measure the inside of 2' PVC or equivalent in gray plastic conduit.

I use schedule 80 2 inch grey PVC to make cylinders with 1 7/8 valves. They work great. I found out the hard way their is a difference of the inside diameter for white and grey schedule 80. Windy taught me. White is true 2 inch.
