Making Sails.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on material for making sails.
I’m wanting to make some 10’ sails and I’ve got tons of Galvanized 20ga.

I took some measurements off the sails I did have
My material miked at .035
8’ sail was .040
10’ sail was .050

Is there any issue with using the lighter gauge material for the 10’ sails? Now this will not be a pumper spinner only.

I wouldn't make it any lighter than original sails unless it's an indoor display. Outside it will be at the mercy of the wind. But that' my opinion.

I make sails from 20 ga for 6 and 8 ft sails. I have made large sails from 16 ga. Pretty thick stuff. I also would not go 20 or lighter for 10 ft sails.

Galv sheet is not really all that much cost-wise. Get you some heavier stuff.

Ok I’ll prolly just go ahead and look for some heavier sheet metal. From my measurements the 10’ sail was 18ga so I’ll either try and find some of that or some 16 ga
