How would you set up a decorative only windmill (Dempster) that would still work in the wind, but not get destroyed because of no load?

It's not the load that stops it from getting destroyed in high winds. It's not furling it. You can have it just for amusement.

Dan is right , my Aermotor is furled 90% of the time , it still spins occasionally when the wind changes direction , keeps the oil flowing and all well lubricated .

I've got the same thing with my Samson.
