Powermill in Wisconsin ID help please

Have a part you can't identify? Did your parts get mixed up in the shop? Curious if that chunk of metal is a part you should keep? Not sure what kind of windmill or tower you have? Post photos of the mystery object here for the community to help identify.

Powermill in Wisconsin ID help please

Post by gravel hill »

I have a windmill, or some parts of one, that I'm trying to ID and maybe restore or at least find some information on the mill. This is a powermill with a vertical shaft down the center of the tower. That shaft turned a double end gear to run grainery equipment and fill silo with a bucket conveyor. The farm has been in the family here since 1883. I have the tower, about 50foot, and the fan, 12 foot diameter...there's a gearbox on the top of the tower, no tail parts. I cannot find any literature about this windmill on the farm anywhere nor does anyone have any recollection about it other than my wife's oldest brother but, he does not recall any details.
I'll attach pics... thanks, Gravel Hill Farm

Tower is in good shape. Fan is excellent no spokes or hub or anything...wish I had more parts. I plan on laying the tower down this fall. The location of the tower in relation to the barn will help a bunch...I'm going to run a cable over the barn. At a minimum I'd like to at least tighten up the tower and paint it then get the fan and tail up in some way to at least have it as a decoration... I've got a few ideas if I can't fully restore this. We're 50 miles north of Green Bay...Peshtigo...Home of the Great Peshtigo Fire of October 8, 1871...

Beautiful area .
Both days of summer are great !
Lots of white stuff falls 6 months a year .
Dairy farming at its best .
Don't paint the tower , galvanizing only , keep it origional , loses value if "painted "

I need to figure out a way to get a close up pic of the gearbox on top. I'll tell you, I've looked at this with binoculars and a telescope...not markings or anything on it. I need to find a kid with a drone...

OK...I took some pics of the top of the tower and gearbox. I used my phone and a pair of binoculars...not a handy way to do this... too funny. I'll attach...that and one more wheel parts pic.
I appreciate your help folks.
