10 ft 702 converted to a power mill

Generally speaking, this area is for general discussion about things in general, in most cases.

10 ft 702 converted to a power mill

Post by Ken O'Brock »

I just finished converting a new 10 ft 702 gearbox to a power mill for a customer. This is the 6th one I have done. The other 5 were 8 ft 702 mills on 27 ft towers that are being used for skimming oil for a ground water remediation project. They have been in operation for 25 years. This 10 ft power mill will be used by my customer in Finland to operate a grain grinder. It will be on a 33 ft tower.

Wow, Ken that's really cool! Are the parts custom made for you, or shelf items?
Call Dan Benjamin for parts. P M me for the phone number.

Ken is there any slip or ratchet clutch to avoid damage to the mill or machinery when the mill rotates in the wind?

Nothing is needed because the shaft down the tower is rotating already.

The shaft coming down inside the center of the tower will be 3/4" galvanized pipe that pass through 2 pillow block bearings to keep it from wobbling. At the ground level will be another right angle drive , so it will be like a PTO shaft with a roller chain sprocket that can be attached to the grain grinder with a roller chain.

Ken what if the mill tries to rotate opposite of the way the shaft is turning it seems like something would have to slip somewhere. Cause that's a good idea.

The windmill wheel always turns clockwise and the way the system is set up, the shaft always turns clockwise so that the shaft pipes don't unscrew.

I'm talking about the whole mill rotating back and forth on the stem

Do you mean going back and forth trying to track the wind? The mill can track the wind from any direction just like one that's pumping.
