Dempster 12A

Post by Mike Hage »

A near perfect set of sails and a vane for a Dempster 12A came along so now i feel i should find a mill to put them on. My question is, how do i identify a 12A? What is the difference between a 12 and a 12A?

As far as I know, it will fit either a Dempster #12 or a 12-A. As long as it's 8 foot head.

The answer to your question is, under the snout it will either say 8 ft #12, or it will say 8 ft 12A. 6 footers don't have that under the snout.

Oh yes, it's a whole different animal. But the wheel is not gender specific. I think the tail is changeable also.

Mike,

Here is a few photos of 8’ Dempster #12. This one was on a 3 legged tower that folded up, like the wheel folded up.

I don’t know much about Dempsters other than I dislike working on one and Dempster’s engineers seem to have gotten paid by the parts/variations they designed. Someone more knowledgeable can answer the 12A v 12 question.

Is this normal? Are the holes supposed to be slotted or are they worn?
