mtblah wrote: Tue Oct 18, 2022 6:24 pm The 1st photo in this thread show the lack of a round hole on the pitman arm , today project was to start making a brass bushing , only took 18 oz of brass to fill the cavity .
next step to make both holes parallel & bore for small drive gear .
Mike - Did you just fill that with braze or did you melt and pour the brass?
Thanks,
Ed

I have a foundry furnace. I have always wanted to test pouring molten brass in a situation like that ... Similar to pouring babbitt.

Ed , you are probably right . Melt brass & pour similar to lead based babbit , only hotter .
Have any of the gentlemen with more years of experience melted brass & poured ?

You would have to preheat the iron part to basically brazing temps & probably flux.

I mostly melt aluminum, only bronze once. I need to to more, and put my big boy pants on and melt some iron.

brass filler line bored to match upper drive shaft , new babbitt poured in guide bearings , starting to come together ,
If you remember last year I built an Ideal Steel and cobbled together a sucker rod bracket .
These photos show the origional factory set-up
ANOTHER OILING POINT !! on top of the sucker rod , the round cup .
I wonder if the owner will bother ?
