Aermotor tower

Generally speaking, this area is for general discussion about windmills, in most cases.

I wouldn't climb an 80 ft tower if there was a $1000 bill taped to the head!

YEARS ago , we went to the Huntsville prison rodeo , a bull durman puch with a $100 bill was tied between its horns , the inmates risked life & limb to grab that $100 bill .
I would not climb 80 Ft for $2000 .

Mark

The corner angle of Aermotor towers changed from Chicago era to San Angelo era. Also, the max tower height in Chicago times was 80 and San Angelo is 47. New towers taller than 47 is not from San Angelo. Here is a chart for the corner angle:

Tower Angle.docx

The San Angelo 6&8 corner angle of 2 x 3/16 has less flex than the Chicago 2 1/4 x 1/8. They kept the corner angle lap holes the same distance from the outside corner of the angle so the tower parts will still interchange from Chicago to San Angelo. To me this places the holes noticeably close to the outer lip of the angle.

It will be a lot of work to make it back in to a 53' tower. I do have 47-53 X braces and lower x extensions for patterns so can give you measurements. There is something up with the top of this tower as the notched top wont bend in like that just from removing the mast

I get a fair amount of green dollars in windmill sales and once had a customer willing to pay me in $500 dollar bills. I didnt want to go there as I knew the largest bill at banks and in circulation was the $100. I researched it later and there was a $500 and $1000 bill but was last printed in 1948 with the last printing put in circulation in 1969. They are still legal tender but only at face unless wanted by a collector. If either of the bills are taken to a bank, the bank has to forward them to the Federal Reserve. It is legal to have them as a collector. Current collector value of a $1000 bill is around $3500. So to someone who has paid good money to go to over 20,000"+ mountains, climbing an 80' tower and getting $3500 is an easy consideration...
