The mast pipe oiling setup only presents a problem when wear has occurred. New Aermotors and clones still use the same mast oiling setup and dont leak when new. Wear happens on both the mast pipe and the case. Wear on both the mast pipe and case is in an elliptical shape because of prevailing winds and the head being unbalanced when furled. Wear on the mast pipe is easier to see with a try square than using a micrometer unless you do multiple measurements top and bottom. It is not uncommon to see 0.050 of wear. Part of our rebuilding process is to put a new mast pipe in the case and assess wear. I dont think we have reused any 6' masts and 8' masts we replace at least 75%. If you need to build up the case, do so in the ID above the lip on the bottom that sits in the mast cup.

A crack in the case is used by a vendor as an excuse for leakage but I have never seen a cracked case that wasn't evident
