8 ft Toronto wheel

Hi everyone, I bought this Toronto wheel at a local auction. It was bent up pretty bad, I had to totally dismantle it and re roll it. Looks like it was stored inside most of its life and has really nice galvanizing. Anyone ever see galvanizing with flower looking flakes like that. I have three Toronto selfoiling wheels that have that, parts were galvanized before the wheel was assembled.

I haven't seen that must be a Canadian thing. Those sails had the holes for the cast iron sail ties. After Aermoters patents ran out or they sold them Toronto that company must have picked them up cause your Bell Hub came later and apparently the cast sail ties.

Yes the earlier open geared Toronto had cast iron clips and the later self oiling had sheet metal clips

Those are a little different aermoters were more pointed and looked like the half top of a star !!!

A good while back when you had said about satin hot dip, I had done some research then. This video done by AGA gives some background on how you get appearance variations.



It did seem like USA Aermotor and Toronto had differenet incongruities than with its other international relationships. US Aermotor was moving away from the cast clip from info provided in the 1899 Descriptive Catalog. From the catalog, aerodynamics and probably production cost were key factors in the change as it was way before any patent expiry.
