Monitor WC, on older tower

Post by 63markB »

I have recently rebuilt a WC monitor. I wanted to put it on an old Baker tower that had a “different top” than what I needed. I found a reference point and cut the top off and then put the newer type top on it with the turn table. Then, I went to put the storm stay in, (part # WC 2A) which is 8” square. If I slide it up in the tower to wheee it’s snug, it’s only 19” below the turn table. QUESTION, what is the best way to shim the storm stay so it can be 30” below the turn table. The tower is approximately 10” aWide at that point.
Sorry so long but wanted to explain what I’m trying to do

Could you take up the Gap with short pieces of angle iron on all 4 corners ?

Use long bolts, and tighten them down equally. There will be threads showing on the inside, but everything should be nice and tight. I've seen lots of older towers like that from the factory. You have the tab on the bottom of the head for the tt, or do you have the longneck style head? there is a difference.

yep, That;s it. Don't thread the neckpipe too long, there is a weak spot inside the bottom of the head there. I usually put thread sealer or put a tackweld on a new neckpipe. Also, the original threads are straight NPS, not tapered NPT. Good luck finding one of those dies! LOL Tapered is what I use.
