Thomas this is for you . sometimes we "think " we are getting pretty good at this windmill stuff , then , we get put in our place .
The 2 front plates that hold the fan shaft taper bearing in place broke when the windmill fell off the work table !
I just thought bad words in my head but didnt say out loud about how clumbsy i am .
so , i got to spend a couple of extra unnessary hours working .

Well done. Nice repair.

*Edit - seeing that old style of brake band on your Dempster reminded me to pass on what I saw Dan B do on a windmill and what I ultimately did on my mine. That style of brake band doesn’t like to stay fully seated in the hub, so I copied what Dan did on my Dempster and the brake works much better now.

Michael , thanks for the photo close-ups , now I see how the "brake " functions ,

any one have a source for the felt oil seals for the nose bearing / shaft ? or do I just make them my self ?

I just saw a post in another section about that. McMaster Carr they said.

Mike, if the repairs don't work, let me know. I have those items.

Oh no! Well that is unfortunate, you know I've already been there. Twice. Haha. At least it didn't land on your foot. From experience, I noticed this cast iron stuff sure if fragile. They really ought to invent something stronger!!
