I just thought I'd share these photos of one of my late brothers items he has in his collection. The lantern that went on top is in the barn somewhere.

That is very cool. I have an old oil signal lamp my late step father left me. Still works perfectly

Dan , is that a boot scraper cast onto the right side of the base ?

Could use it as a book scraper, but more likely a step to reach a kerosene switch lamp which often resided on top of the staff. They were refilled often.
