Generally speaking, this area is for general discussion about windmills, in most cases.

I don't believe there was a brake on the original 1891 model only when the improved 95 came out as far as I know.

I have 2 pre-95 models, both have brakes. In 95 they put the flange on the gears me thinks.

The way I understand it, the pre95 brake was a complete circle that contacted the hub. The later rake only contacted the top and bottom of the hub. There is a full circle brake on the one I put up at the Village, it also has the small width gears.

Wayne i have two 95 and later they did come with a full circle and half circle brake. Bob the gear with the coller on it i believe was only on the irragator model i believe. This is a parts diagram of the 1891 dandy and I don't see a brake. Also the original dandy tailvane was rounded on the end like early monitor.

Here's a shot of the Dandy brake itself on the shaft. The hub is on the wheel, which is on the ground. I'll see if I can find that one.

Maybe you can see the hub here. It's as large as the brake.
