Hi everyone!
I just purchased my first windmill. It is a Baker 6.5’ fan with self oiling motor. The tower is 17’.
As I have to bring it to my house I was wondering if I can just pull the motor and fan in one piece by hand lifting and afterward to have the tower down?

You cannot lift the mill, fan, and tail out of the tower by hand. Well, unless you have very close hereditary connection to either Samson, or Arnold.

Norman , not recomended for the week of heart , those old cast iron pieces are increadably HEAVY , plan ahead with a large mechanical lifting device .

If you know how to do it right by hinging the tower and using a winch you can lower the tower with the Mill on it to the ground.

I’d take the fan off as well as the wheel arms and vane. Then it is more doable to lift it up and out. It is still two handfuls, even for a WB; like Dan, Mike and WindyBob already said. If you can take the pump rod out, you’ll have to lift it less high.

Windy Bob, when my uncle Bill was younger he probably could have lifted that mill off the tower he raised pigs and could carry two 200lb pigs one under each arm.

I have a neighbor who took up 6 ft Aermotors on his shoulder when he was young. Then built the wheel and put the tail on. That I can imagine.
