Samsco windmill tail

Post by Jukeboxdon70 »

I ran across a windmill tail that looks as if it was off a Samsco Windmill. The text is faded but you can read “Samsco” with a large star on both sides. I am not able to find too much information on this company, but did find that it was out of San Antonio, Texas. I would be grateful is someone can give me some more information concerning this. Thank you

It could be San Antonio Manufacturing and Service CO. Probably didn't Manufacture windmills sold someone's and put there name on one side of the Vane. I had a US WInd Engine Model A vane had Kruger Co. San Anonio on one side

Well that would certainly make sense as to why I couldn’t find info on it. Would you know a ballpark estimated value on this without bullet holes, not bent up, but with very faded stenciling? Complete assembly with vane still attached to arm.

Don't have enough information to come up with a price, but if it has a star on the tail it is definitely a star windmill made by Flint and Walling windmill company. They were the only company that put a star on the tail. I think it should be a red and blue star.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

The Star 15 is probably the most common. This is the Star 37tail which is a different shape than the more common windmill tails.Flint and Walling was sort of like Dempster in that you could pick a 2 digit number and they made one with that model number.

I believe Sam's Co. Was a supply house in San Antonio back in the day.
When I acquired my Star 12 in Flatonia, ( east of San Antonio ) it had
Sam's Co. On the tail. I would have to look for a picture of it but not sure if
I took pictures. They were a pump and supply company.
If you remember Allan Renke, he aquired dozens of F&W windmills
That had Sam's Co. On the tail. I would like to see pictures of this mill.

This is the windmill vane that I was inquiring about. The text is faded away. but you can make out "Samsco" and a star on both sides.
