On a 6' Dempster #12 what does the two teeth on the inside of the larger (Bull) gears do or what are they for? Also does the pump rod go inside of the pullout tube? Thanks, Tom

Yes the pumprod goes inside the pullout tube. Screws into the yoke. The 2 extra "teeth" are oiler fingers. They dip in oil, and deposit it on the tray of the crosshead. If you put the bull gears in backwards, the mill will lock up. So be careful.

Thanks for the replies, one other question, the manual says the pullout swivel bolts to the pullout tube to keep it from turning with the head. It looks like to me that the pullout tube needs to turn with the head to keep the pullout chain from getting tighter as the head rotates,

The pullout swivel bolts together, but it is not tight on the tube. The long "finger" on the swivel goes between the tower legs to keep it positional. (is that a word?) lol The chain is on the top end of the pullout tube, so it rotates with the tube. The swivel fits loose, and it does not rotate. Therefore the motion is broken by the swivel and not carried to the wire down the leg.
