HELLO
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW MUCH OIL CLEARANCE YOU SHOULD HAVE ON THE CROSSHEAD SHAFTS ? MY CROSSHEAD HAD BABBITTED BUSHINGS . I HAD TO MELT ONE BUSHING TO GET THINGS APART . MY MACHINIST MADE NEW SHAFTS . HE SAID HE COULD PROBABLY USE BRASS TO MAKE NEW BUSHINGS , BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE CLEARANCE SHOULD BE . THANKS , MIKE

Brown wrapping paper, or shopping bags. 2 wraps. You don't want tight clearances in windmills. When it gets hot outside, things swell and tighten up further. These are not high-speed perfect machines. They are slow speed, mass produced machines. A little loose is far better than too tight.

Brass would be fine.

THANKS BOB
I KINDA THOUGHT THEY SHOULD BE A LITTLE LOOSE . OF COURSE WHEN I STARTED TAKING THIS THING APART, IT WAS FAR MORE THAN A LITTLE LOOSE---HA !
TAKE CARE , MIKE

P.S. I HAVE LEFT A FEW MESSAGES ON DAN'S PHONE OVER TIME , BUT NO RESPONSE . I UNDERSTAND HE IS BUSY . IS HE DOING OK ?

as far as I know he's ok. I don't talk to him very often, just once in a while.
