Farm Lighting Battery rebuild

Hi all,

Recently I found a good set of farm lighting cells I plan to rebuild for use in my 12 volt lighting plant. They are Globe-Lite 21 plate 450 AH cells; originally locally made. The fellow had 10 left over from a 32 volt system which was located in the basement of a collapsed farmhouse. Of the 10, 5 had cracked lids but one I think will be good enough for use with the five good ones. Also included were the lead connectors and bolts, so all they need is new plate groups. I will have to figure out how to rebuild them and source materials; If anybody has any ideas I'd love to hear them. So far I've built a heavy wooden stand out of 2x6s; it still needs a good coat of acid-resistant paint but I think it turned out nice.

I was excited to find that the pilot cell was included in the lot, including the pilot indicator with the yellow and red ball. I haven't seen anything like this used in a modern battery, even thought it seems like a very convenient way to determine the charge at a glance without handling a hydrometer.

Very nice! What a good find. Those are beefy cells.

WindCharger Mike might have info on rebuilding glass cells.
