Some of you may remember, last summer I picked up a Parish in Harrah Oklahoma. When I brought it in, I thought it was either made to generate electricity or someone had greatly modified it and lost or discarded most of the parts that a Parish would have. The sprockets, chain, walking beam and such. Well it turns out, with the help of Jerry and Michael, we have figured out that is was a direct stroke, that someone had modified to try and generate electricity.

I’ve been trying to put things back together and rebuild it. It’s been a big chore and I have a long way to go. If anyone has any information on the direct stroke, Parish, please let me know.

Hey Mark the only info I have is the direct stroke came out in 1981.

Thanks Dan, I did read where the stroke is only 2”. Seems awful short but i guess it worked

I cleaned and restored the stub as best that I could. Repainted and and cleaned the stub legs in Evaporust. The turntable for the parish is very poor. Lots of friction to deal with.

The body, or “motor” of the Parish is just a heavy angle iron piece with the stub tube welded to the bottom. Before and after pictures.

There is info on the DS Parish at the Panhandle Plains Museum in canyon Tx, also in Lubbock, in Laramie Wyoming, and in Oklahoma City at the Okla Historical Society. These flyers are illustrated.

Altho probably not real extensive, a picture or 2 may help.

Thanks much Windy, I have checked with the museum in Lubbock and they didn’t have any on the DS, just the gear ,(or sprocket) Reduction. I will check the other places. I appreciate it

That's what it said in the green book. It also said that TLB had one in his personal collection. However, if the flyer was only a page or two, maybe they overlooked it.
