Came across this in a yard in Tribune KS. Apparently someone in the family had a well-drilling business back in the day.
And a Dempster 12.
Happy 4th!

Thanks for the photo
There appears to be a quantity of “Goldberg” aspects to the rig , the chassis , the pickup box , gas tank/ water tank, & spooling from a steam shovel

That's so totally KS for ya! The people out here sure know how to get stuff done with whatever they have. Thanks for pointing that all out, it was the first time I'd ever even heard of a cable tool or Bucyrus.

So that what that is. I ran across this one on a ranch out in the high desert between Holbrook and Winslow AZ. It appears to be somewhat older. The fellow that owned it (Mr Baird, second picture) told me that when they would fire it up when he was a kid, all the ranch hands would scatter because it was terrifying.

Brad , several windmillers subscribe to Farm Collectors magazine , Wayne frequently answers questions about obscure tools.
In the past there was a in depth article about the old water well drilling machines, and even several on windmills

Bucyrus Erie made a lot of different construction equipment. The one they are most famous for is the BIG MUSKIE drag line used for excavation of coal. It's massive bucket is on display in Ohio and was a whopping 220 yd bucket about the size of 11 triaxle dump trucks. The largest ever built !!!
