Aermotor B602 help
Hello. I am the head restorationist at the DRY CREEK HISTORICAL SOCIETY
located in Boise, Idaho. We are an all volunteer 501C3 non profit organization. Our mission is to restore Idahos rich farming history. We are open to the public (free of charge)
We are in the last stages of finishing an Aermotor 602-B 10’ windmill. This will be a functional windmill pulling water from a well.
We need the correct tail vain. If anyone out there has the correct tail vain please reach out to me.
This particular windmill is from March of 1930.
As we are a non profit organization with not a lot of money we are hoping someone in this group can step up and help us locate the tail tin.
We can pay shipping but are hoping to get the tin for as little as possible. It is going to a great cause.
Check us out at
Drycreekhistory.org
Thanks so much,
Mark Chadwick

Re: Aermotor B602 help
Welcome to the forum.
I don’t have a spare B602/B702 tail pin, but you can buy one off of eBay. There are sellers on eBay and the B602/B702 (B510) tail pins range from $10 to $15 each, plus shipping. As opposed to pricing directly from Aermotor San Angelo, where the B510 tail pin is $70, plus shipping.
Someone else on here might have a spare tail pin for you.

Hi guys. Yes, I’m looking for the tail vain. Thanks so much.
Re: Aermotor B602 help
What is the size of a 10-foot or 12-foot tail vane, I might have one that needs a little repair

Rocking, the fain/sail is 10 ‘ I’m not sure what size the tail vain needs to be.
If anyone out there can tell me the size of a 602-B tail vain, that would be great.

Re: Aermotor B602 help
Usually the whole tail measures about what size the mill is. So a 10 ft complete tail would be right around 10 ft. (give or take)
Call Dan Benjamin for parts. P M me for the phone number. IF YOU TALK TO HIM, AND HE HELPS YOU, THEN BUY FROM HIM. IT CREATES GOOD KARMA.

Re: Aermotor B602 help
The combined tail bone and tail vane assembled is approximately 10' for a 10' mill. It sounds like you have the tailbone and are only looking for vane "tin"? If you dont have the bone, there is probably more parts missing.
Height of tail vanes at widest vertical point mounted direction:
8' - 35"
10 - 44.5"
12 - 57"
Measurements are approx.
The purpose of the vane is to keep the mill in line with wind flow AND to counterbalance the weight of the fan to keep the complete head balanced. !0' vanes are harder to come by at least for me. I have three complete 10s here but no extra vanes.
8' and 10' vanes are constructed the same with a horizontal seam at the upper edge (Chicago era). 8 and 10 have the same mounting brackets and bolt patterns and closer in size than others. You can direct bolt an 8' vane to a 10' bone and add some weight to it for the counterbalance.
I have been up in that area and around half dozen mills there. You might try Hugh Grim in Spokane for a source.

Re: Aermotor B602 help
I never knew him to be on anything online. He is likely old school since being 94. I will PM you the landline contact info I have. He was the only one I ever ran across that had any windmill knowledge/parts in that general area. I had to look when I met up with him because I went to Glacier NP and hiked Mt Spokane when there, it was ten years ago and he was only 84 then...Time flies..
