Brand new here... baker wc 8ft model

Post by MNwindmill24 »

Hi all,

Im new here and to windmilling. 3 years ago I made a patio with a 1957 butler 14ft bin and made a bar of it. My parent do construction and were doing demolition of an old farm 30 miles away. Seeing pictures of the place it had a windmill so we saved it and brought it home. I have the tower up and secured a week ago. I need one last part... wc-12, the lower hinge that connects to the vane and also the brake rod... the hole were the brake rod inserts to is broke and wont retain the rod. I cant find one anywhere... and help would be appreciated. Ive attached the latest picture of the bin and tower... can wait to get the sail up and have it turning!

Those 8 ft WC parts are all over the place. I would recomend Dan Benjamin.
Call Dan Benjamin for parts. P M me for the phone number. IF YOU TALK TO HIM, AND HE HELPS YOU, THEN BUY FROM HIM. IT CREATES GOOD KARMA.

Welcome to the forum.

Like WindyBob said, Dan Benjamin is a great source for parts. eBay or Verdun Company in Kansas are also options. Verdun doesn’t have much of a website.

A WC can be an easy rebuild and I’d recommend disassembling and cleaning (oil passages) the gearbox as well as checking the front bushing for wear as to not regret doing so late.

True. A W series Monitor has a slanted fan. If the bearing is worn, the fan will be straight up and down, and will likely clip the tower.

Welcome, I'm a few miles south of prior lake and restore windmills. Coincidentally, I need to get parts for a WC by Belle Plaine I could try to source that part you need also if you would like.

Thank you all. I was out of town the last couple weeks, I did find the few parts i know I needed and received them last night. I think next week I may be ready to get it on the tower minus the fan and tail. I did run a motor clean through the gear box, surprisingly there was zero rust anywhere in there. After I ran the motor clean I did flush it with bar oil because I had about 8 qts laying around. one of the parts I received last night was the gasket. So with the amount of reading I have done on here.... do I go with ATF red or 5 / 10 weight non detergent oil?

@minnemiller - Wow what are the chances of finding someone so close. If you would could you PM me you phone number or email, in case I have any questions or issues? I can PM you here also if that is your preference. I am pretty self sufficient and don't like to do things myself if at all possible. Thanks.
