Obscure question: I know the text on the tail vane sheet of Samson mills was always black, but what color were the main castings and hubs painted? I've seen a restored AirFlow with bright green castings, a restored Samson M with red castings, and an S with black. Were there different colors for different models? The "Field Guide" doesn't say anything about the colors of the castings.

This green was found underneath the bolt on chain assembly of an Airflow so I believe it to be the original green.

Stover, (Samson) color of mills was black for the most part. I will accept that the AirFlow was green.

I have painted them red, because the customers like it better, and so do I. I don't think the windmill police are working this area, so I sleep ok.

My 20' Samson S was black body and black lettering. And what field guide are you referring to?

FWIW, our AirFlow is also green.
