Thought I'd give you something to think about while under house arrest. I bought this thing not knowing what it was but thinking I'd send it to Farm Collector Mag mystery tool section. It has patent nums on it so I searched them. It calls it a Supplemental horseshoe. On the patent drawing it it seems to have pegs that would face down mine are missing. I'm wondering if it was an ice shoe for horses that you could put on and off. Anybody know for sure.

Yes, I think its for cold shoeing manufactured shoes. I got a friend who is a horseshoer, I could run it past her. I am glad to see I am not the only person who buys things at auction they don't have a clue to what they are!

Thanks Fellows for the reply. I bought this at Canton First Monday I think. Might have been when my shopping cart was empty and I didn't want to go home empty handed. Plus 0nly $10 I figure most anything made out of iron is worth $10. The only reason I was wondering about it being an ice shoe is because it is called a supplemental horseshoe. What did it supplement?

I would say it was a supplement because it supplemented hot shoeing in a pinch, anyone could spread a factory shoe out to get by so it was used like a spare tire in my opinion.

If you have sellers remorse, I would give you your $10 back. ;-)

I'll hold on to it for now. It's worth more now that we know what it is just not what it was used for.(He He) I'll be interested in what your horse shoeing friend might have to say. I'm thinking it wasn't a big seller. Can't find any other info on the internet. If there is still a question about it come August and if I get to go to Portland Indiana for there show I'll take it with me and ask around. There might be someone there with all the info.
