today's project was to learn how to pour battitt.
Wind Bob was correct as usual. Thanks Bob.
Took 4 attempts to finally get it right !
Just melt the stuff out and try again.....
1st time, every thing leaked & splattered on the floor, that stuff is HOT !
2nd time, some things leaked.
3rd time, didn't melt enough babbitt.
4th time, PERFECT.
would have been simpler to purchase new from Aermotor, but not near as satisfying.
If you live anywhere near New Braunfels TX i would be glad to pour some babbitt for you as i am a
"professional " pourer now. I have burn marks on my shins to prove that fact.

Way to go Mike! Make sure to file down the top even with the arm so it can slide on the gear all the way.

as usual windybob is right !
while fitting the pinion to the big gear I discovered the bearing must be even with the housing. Some grinding & filing required.
ANOTHER lesson learned.

bearing # 752, carrier for the large gears. seams fairly straight forward to jig-up to hold babbitt.
I have ordered 3 lbs from Kapp Alloy, only $8 per lb, shipping cost as much as the product.
#13 Durakapp for low speed bearings
some time next week I will send more photos

we live a half mile from Gruene Hall, the oldest dance hall in Texas.
Many, many country sings have stared and started here, well before Lukenbach.
Bring your project that needs pouring and babbitt down when you visit.
We do social distance w/mask
