Ceining Fan

need some ideas on how to drive a original windmill ceiling fan, left a hole 14 in by 24 in by 9 in deep would like to adjust fan to low speeds. Any ideas pics would be appreciated. Do i need a dc motor and variable controller?

I would use a DC motor with a controller. When I worked maintenance in a factory we used a lot of DC motors to drive a wide range of equipment. Look at Garinger they sell a house brand that comes with a motor and controller. You could go AC with a VFD but will be at a higher cost.
