Big mill on the barn

Generally speaking, this area is for general discussion about windmills, in most cases.

The guy I bought the 14ft model 99 aermoter power mill from said his great, great grandfather paid 97.00 for it with the stub tower that hooked to the barn

I posted several more pictures of the barn.
Before the wind got to it and one after the wind.

I also watched "Finding your roots" and that farm was at Louisburg KS.
About 40 miles South of Kansas City.

Neat info about the Althouse-Wheeler, never knew they made a big power mill. Of course there is a lot of stuff about windmills I don't know. Thanks for the info Terry. Do you think it could have been a Haliday? This post shows what I enjoy about the site. One picture opens up so much info. Thanks Fellows!

Thanks to all who posted pictures and information on these. Can't say I have ever seen a big mill or a power mill in person. There were a lot of things in my back yard so to speak that I never knew about.

If you want to see a working rebuilt Challenge Double Header mill look for the one in California. I forget the name of the place. Someone on here will know it. Great story about the rebuild.

Here is a picture of what the place with the barn in OP looked like. The other picture shows the ruins in 2018 showing the tower of the giant Althouse Power Mill still standing in it.

I knew I had an image or two of an Aermotor price guide for power mills and water pumpers from 1901 and your post made me think of it. Not an Althouse, but I’d imagine $125 was a lot of money for 1901 for any make of windmill.

CTXmiller, I am sorry I have forgotten your name even tho you had sent me a nice thank you for taking down Roger's mills that you bought.

I noticed some very interesting info on the first page of the 1901 Aermotor Price List you posted. Aermotor back in the open gear days had 2 brochures for each year - Descriptive Catalogue and Price List. I have the 1901 Descriptive Catalogue but not the Price List.

Here is what I found interesting:
The Price List describes both the 99 Model and the Original in 1901 and describes the differences in the two. 99 being pull in and Original pull out.

You could get either model in some sizes in 1901 except for the 10 & 14 which only came in the 99.

There was no mention of the "light wind" models in 10 & 14 that were made in the 99 model.

Power mills are not specified as either model and only one model is priced in 12, 14 & 16

Fast forward to 1907 which I have a Price List for:

1907 Aer price list.jpg

Here is what is interesting in it:
The 99 is still available in some models as well as the RA.

There is a Heavy 10 RA model.

The 20 is listed as a 1903 model - the only one.

Power mills dont have a specified model again.

I would be interested in seeing more of the 1901 Price List you have but if I'm reading right you just have a couple pics?

Oh BTW, $125 1901 dollars are worth $4300 but wait until next year's hyper inflation...The real question is would a 16 Power Mill fetch more than $4300 in NOS condition....

Ron & Mark,

Attached are all the pages that I screenshot of the 1901 Aermotor price list. I believe I screenshot these images from an eBay listing a few years ago.

Ron - that is interesting.

Thank you,
Michael
