12D1 Perkins main casting

Post by Kansas Rust Buzzard »

I have went through all my literature, the main casting is usually 1, the size is 12ft, but I don't have any books that show a D? Also, its marked on the bottom near the mast pipe, not unheard of but not as common of a place. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

KRB
Have you looked in the literature section here on the forum. There is a good brochure with good parts lists.

Both good questions, I don't have the spyder but I am suspicious its a direct stroke steel mill only because it doesn't fit any of the parts lists for common wood and the metal ones appear to have the part number in the lower location more often? Of course it doesn't for steel lists either but I am no Perkins man?

Yes Sir, also several other sources and this appears to be an oddball? Thanks

Ok here's my thoughts "For what they're worth". They made a back stroke and a direct stroke steel windmill which means the main frame would be different with different cast numbers. Maybe the "D" on yours means DIRECT stroke model.

KRB i found some more info. Perkins also made a Emperor direct stroke steel mill along with the Perkins direct stroke steel mill. Maybe that's why the D is there parts list would tell.

That is a good suggestion, but from what I can tell the Emperor used the steel style vane and this most definitely had the standard wood style tail bracket, the long forged threaded eye bolt. Its really like my 10ft D mill only the D should not be on a 12ft mill from the parts books? Its with out a doubt a babbit bearing mill, one is still in the box. I would like to know if this style had the hub with separate brake band or the cast on spyder kind if it is a wood mill? I can probably pull this off but the crank is going to be a new experience for me. Thanks
